Our Approach

Business analysts first, not stock analysts.

We view stocks as ownership in a business. We concentrate capital in our highest-conviction ideas — high-quality, understandable companies with long runways for growth — and use volatility to our advantage as patient, long-term capital.

Quality

Capable, high-integrity management teams, scalable business models, clean capital structures and improving profitability.

Conviction

Generally 7–12 core positions, sized by conviction, liquidity, valuation and risk, and built over time as the thesis develops.

Alignment

The portfolio manager invests significant personal capital alongside our partners. We succeed only when they do.

Transparency

Quarterly reporting, an annual audit and open, direct communication. Without the trust of our partners there would be no Hurdle6.

Research Process

Primary research builds a differentiated view.

Our results depend on how well we understand the companies we own. Every potential investment goes through fundamental and qualitative analysis before any capital is committed.

  1. Identify

Screen an underfollowed universe, tap our investor network and conferences, and look for misunderstood situations.

  2. Review

Annual and quarterly reports, SEC and SEDAR+ filings, capital structure, ownership and recent financings.

  3. Investigate

Industry dynamics, channel checks with customers, suppliers and competitors, management interviews and site visits.

  4. Value

Estimate intrinsic value, weigh long-term risk and reward, and map near-term catalysts and threats to the thesis.

  5. Commit

Size by conviction and risk, build the position over time, and monitor the thesis continuously.

Sean Marconi

Founder & Portfolio Manager, Hurdle6 Capital

Sean is the founder and sole portfolio manager of Hurdle6 Capital, responsible for investment research, portfolio management, capital allocation and partner communications. He is a fundamental stock picker focused on identifying misunderstood, underfollowed and mispriced businesses before they are widely recognized by the market.

His approach is rooted in areas where information is less efficiently processed, but it is not limited to the smallest companies. He seeks exceptional businesses across the market-cap spectrum with exposure to emerging trends, durable tailwinds, attractive valuations and long-term value creation — and he does the primary work: meeting management, visiting operations and checking the channel.

Sean graduated from Oakland University in 2008 and lives in Michigan, about 30 minutes north of Detroit, with his wife, daughter and two dogs.
